Overview of traditional native societies of the Northwest Coast from southern Alaska to northern California; significant features such as art, totemic crests, rank, religious beliefs, the potlatch, fishing and foraging are illustrated by comparisons and by selected ethnographic sketches; the contemporary situation in context of continuity with the past. Writing assignments represent a significant component of coursework.
