BIOL 201 Intro to Public Health

An overview of the field of public health and the various strategies that are used to assure health at a population level. Frameworks and tools for developing effective health interventions. Specific topic areas relevant to population health will be explored, such as social determinants of health, social and behavioral risk factors, non-communicable and communicable disease, and environmental health. Discussion of methods for translating health needs into policies and systems that benefit the public. Addresses contemporary controversies and ethical considerations in public health practice.
