Hair Design Certificate

Overview

Hair Design Certificate (HSHHDC45) Active: Su 2025

To work as a Cosmetologist or Hair Designer, students must possess a Washington state Cosmetology or Hair Design license This license is granted to students who complete the program, acquire 1730 cosmetology hours or 1500 hair design hours and pass the Washington State Licensure exam for Cosmetology or Hair Design.

Requirements

  • All courses must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or higher.
  • If you are attending part-time, be sure to work with your advisor.

In your starting quarter, take CHD 211 and one of take one of CHD 110, COSMT 111, or COSMT 112. The others will be taken in subsequent quarters. Also take one of COSMT 102, H DEV 155, or MATH 60. The others will be taken in subsequent quarters. In the quarters you are taking

As you continue, you will take the following courses, as well as the ones mentioned above that have not yet been taken: COSMT 212, COSMT 213, COSMT 214, and COSMT 215, as well as COSMT 216, COSMT 217, COSMT 218, and COSMT 219.

Note: CHD 120 is designed for fifth quarter students preparing for the Washington State Hair Design Written Licensure Exam. It provides theoretical review of facts from previous Hair Design courses in preparation for in-house computerized exams before applying for WA State Board examination.

Cosmetology Hours

Students need to acquire 1730 cosmetology hours or 1500 hair design hours as part of the Washington State licensure process. COSMT 206 - Lab/Shop Practice VI -may be used to complete unmet required program clock hours.

Be sure to discuss requirement needs with your program advisor. COSMT 206 may also be used to complete curriculum requirements or special interest projects. COSMT 206 is an additional quarter and may be optional.

EvCC Residency Units Requirement

To be eligible to earn a diploma at EvCC for any certificate, at least one-third of the units must be earned at Everett Community College and apply towards the certificate being earned. These units must be traditionally graded and calculated in the EvCC GPA.

Required Residency Units: 29 minimum

Additional Graduation Requirements

In addition to the applicable Diversity and Residency Units requirements, EvCC has other graduation requirements for all certificates and degrees, including which version of credential requirements should be met, a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, fulfillment of all obligations to the college (financial or otherwise), and filing of an application for graduation.
