Financial Aid and Scholarships Office

The Financial Aid and Scholarships Office helps eligible degree- and certificate-seeking students obtain funding to meet their educational expenses at Everett Community College. We want you to succeed.

In-person financial aid assistance is available in the Financial Aid Office, located on the top floor of the Parks Student Union, Room 307. Phone assistance is available by calling 425-388-9280.

Application Process

The Financial Aid Office provides financial assistance to individuals who have completed the financial aid process and are eligible for aid as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA). It is important to apply for financial aid well in advance of your anticipated start date. To be considered for maximum funding and to qualify for a tuition hold, students need to submit their FAFSA or WASFA and complete required EvCC paperwork by the priority processing dates listed on the EvCC Financial Aid Website. Applications are reviewed continuously and are awarded on a funds-available basis.

Types of Financial Aid Available

EvCC participates in a variety of federal and state financial aid programs, which generally fall into three broad categories:

• Grants (Require no repayment): Includes the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Washington College Grant, College Bound Scholarship, Passport to College Scholarship, and the EvCC Grant.
• Work Study (Part-time employment): Includes Federal Work Study and Washington State Work Study, offering on- or off-campus part-time jobs with hourly pay.
• Loans (Must be paid back with interest): Includes Federal Direct Loans. It is important for students to understand their repayment options so they can successfully manage their student loans.

Financial aid recipients usually receive a combination of these programs. Funding focuses first on direct educational expenses (tuition and fees). For students enrolled at least half-time, indirect costs such as living expenses and childcare are also considered.

Tuition Hold Process

Students who are dependent on financial aid to pay for their tuition may be placed on a tuition hold by the Financial Aid Office prior to the tuition payment deadline each quarter. Holds are typically not given if a student does not meet the priority filing deadline for that quarter or fails to meet other basic eligibility requirements. Academic Progress

Financial aid recipients are expected to maintain satisfactory academic progress. Grades are monitored on a quarterly and annual basis.

To remain in good standing, a student must meet the following Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) metrics:

• Complete all classes with a minimum required number of credits.
• Maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA).
• Maintain a minimum 67% cumulative course completion rate.

All previously attempted college credits are evaluated, regardless of whether the student received financial aid at the time. Students may be allowed to attempt up to 150 percent of the college-level credits required for their specific degree. A maximum of 45 credits will be allowed for required preparatory (remedial) coursework.

Return of Title IV Funds

Financial aid recipients who withdraw, either officially or unofficially, may be required to return some or all of the federal financial aid they received. Future financial aid will be suspended, and students must formally appeal for reinstatement.

Financial Aid Census Date and Repayment Policy

The complete Financial Aid Census Date and Repayment Policy is available online under the Resources tab on the EvCC Financial Aid page. Students are strongly encouraged to visit the Financial Aid Office to ask about how dropping classes will impact their funding before making changes to their schedule.

The Financial Aid Office uses an "enrollment lock" date—also known as the census date—for the Federal Pell Grant, Washington College Grant, College Bound, and Passport to College funds. The census date is the 10th business day of the quarter (except for Summer quarter, which is the 8th business day).

College policy allows students to drop classes without receiving a grade of "W" through the census date. Tuition refunds may also be issued for courses dropped in accordance with the Everett Community College Refund Policy. Schedule changes made through the census date may impact your financial balance depending on whether your grants have already been disbursed and whether classes were added or dropped.

Adding and Dropping Classes Around Census

• Adding Classes: If a student adds any eligible courses by the census day, financial aid funds will be increased. Additional funds will be applied toward payment of charges for the added classes, and any remaining credit balance will be issued to the student through BankMobile Disbursements (a technology solution powered by BMTX, Inc.).
• Dropping Classes: If a student drops any eligible courses by the census day, financial aid funds will be reduced. This adjustment will result in the student owing a repayment balance to Everett Community College and/or the state aid program(s), depending on the specific funding type.

Scholarships

A variety of scholarships are made available by the college, through community organizations, and by generous donations from individuals. Eligibility requirements vary; some are based on financial need, some on academic merit, and others on a specific program of study.
