WELD 231 Welding Capstone

Application of welding processes and techniques learned on carbon steel with necessary changes to an aluminum boat hull using both GTAW and GMAW. Welding codes for the hull and structural components will be discussed, with students evaluating their welds to the requirements of the applicable American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Part 2, and American Welding Society (AWS) D1.2 Structural Aluminum Code and historical D3.7 Guide for Aluminum Hull Welding. Presentation of completed aluminum boats to invited members of the local marine industry and other employers specializing in aluminum fabrications. Final course for both degree seeking and certificate students in the Welding Program. Students will be assessed for knowledge, skills and work-readiness acquired during the student's welding education. If prerequisites appear to be a barrier to enrollment for this course, contact your instructor who may waive requirements.
