Medical Assistant ATA (MLAMAAPT) Active: Su 2024
The Associate in Technical Arts (ATA) degree is awarded for completion of a program of study in technical education, the purpose of which is to prepare students for related employment with skills that meet the needs of the business community.
The Medical Assistant Certificate requires completion of 73 or 74 units.
The Medical Assistant Associate in Technical Arts (ATA) requires additional electives to total 90 units.
Note: Successful completion of Everett Community College's accredited program, along with passage of one of the five national certification exams, meets Washington State requirements to legally work as a medical assistant
Requirements
Phase One: Breaking Ground on Your Pathway
- Explore the EvCC Medical Assistant Homepage.
- Meet with a faculty advisor.
- Complete EvCC Self-Directed English Placement
- Grade minimum of a C (2.0 or better grade) in each course used to fulfil graduation requirements.
- All courses must be taken prior to Clinical Practicum (HLTH 251).
- Immunizations - start as soon as possible. They take 8-9 months to complete.
- BLS pre-req - take HLTH 109: First Aid and Basic Life Support (AHA CPR) or obtain certificate from community resources (information available at HPSC).
- Submit Medical Assisting “Demographic, Criminal History & Technical Standards” e-form.
- Criminal history issues - Discuss with faculty advisor.
- Advising topics may include number of courses to be taken per quarter, if student will not be taking courses during certain quarters, plans to work towards the University Transfer degree, official Transfer Credit Evaluation process (student initiated) or if a Course Waiver and Substitution process is needed (advisor initiated), and a Diploma Application should be submitted during the pre-Clinicals quarter (student initiated).

- All vaccines are needed prior to Phase Four classes.

General Electives can be taken at any time.
Electives - Choose 14 or 15 units of 100-level or higher courses.

Diversity Course Requirement
Diversity courses focus on perspectives related to cultural diversity in our society, which is defined as including human differences in culture, race, ethnicity, age, sex, sexuality, gender, ability, class, socioeconomic status, language, and religion. Courses are listed in the Class Schedule with a Diversity Class Attribute. They are typically found in the areas of Communications, Humanities, Social Sciences and Transfer Electives. A Diversity course may count toward one of the Distributions listed above, as well as meeting the Diversity Course requirement. Please consult with your advisor.
Completing one diversity class with a grade of D or better is an EvCC institutional requirement and is necessary to receive any degree from Everett Community College.

EvCC Residency Units Requirement
To be eligible to earn a diploma at EvCC for any certificate, at least one-third of the units must be earned at Everett Community College and apply towards the credential being earned. These units must be traditionally graded and calculated in the EvCC GPA.
Required Residency Units: 30 minimum
Additional Graduation Requirements
In addition to the applicable Diversity and Residency Units requirements, EvCC has other graduation requirements for all certificates and degrees, including which version of credential requirements should be met, a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, fulfillment of all obligations to the college (financial or otherwise), and filing of an application for graduation. Program Learning Outcomes
- Students will provide holistic care to patients; analyze data for clinical reasoning, provide culturally competent, therapeutic health care; to meet healthcare industry standards. Students will be assessed through simulated clinical experiences, homework assignments, projects, role-play scenarios and testing situations.
- Students will demonstrate professionalism in the role of medical assisting; abide by ethical, legal, and professional standards within the scope of practice, demonstrate self-awareness, critical thinking, communication, and collaborate effectively with the health care team. Students will be assessed through simulated clinical experiences, homework assignments, projects, role play scenarios and testing situations.
