Getting Started at a Glance

The Get Started checklist is available on EvCC’s website and in handout form in the Enrollment Services office (Parks Student Union, Room 201) to assist students in navigating college processes.

The Get Started Checklist

1. Explore our Educational Pathways: Find the right path for you! Learn more on the EvCC Educational Pathways Page.
2. Apply Online for Admission: Submit your application. Your letter of admission will be sent via email and will include your ctcLink Student ID number and next steps. Apply through the EvCC Admissions Portal.
3. Find Ways to Pay for College: Learn about your funding options on the EvCC Financial Aid and Funding Options Page.
4. Complete Orientation: New students can choose to complete an online orientation before registering for classes. Get started at the EvCC Online Orientation Page.
5. Establish Placement for Classes: Most students need math and English placement before registering. Check your options on the EvCC Placement Portal.
6. Complete Entry Advising & Select a Pathway: Students are required to complete entry advising before selecting first-quarter classes. View hours and contact information on the EvCC Advising and Pathway Selection Page.
7. Register & Pay for Classes: Register and pay in person or online through ctcLink. Review deadline dates at the EvCC Academic Deadlines Calendar.

Admission and Get Started Details

Applying for Admission

Students must submit their application to EvCC via the Online Admissions Application Portal (OAAP). Please note that some specialized programs may require specific admissions applications.

Once your application is processed, a letter of admission will be sent to the email address you provided. This letter will include your ctcLink ID number and critical next steps, including ctcLink activation, placement, advising, and registration details.

Admission Status by Student Type

• New Students: Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. However, it is highly recommended that you apply at least two weeks before open enrollment to ensure you have enough time to complete all "Get Started" steps. Note: New students who do not enroll within 4 quarters of their initial application term must reapply. Review the checklist at EvCC New Student Step-by-Step Guide.
• Current Students: Students who maintain continuous enrollment do not need to reapply for admission each quarter. You are responsible for keeping your profile details updated in the ctcLink student information system.
• Returning Students: Students who have been absent for more than 4 quarters must reapply as a returning student and may register during Open Enrollment. Review key schedules on the EvCC Deadlines Calendar or find more details on the EvCC Returning Students Page.
• Transfer Students: New transfer students should complete the standard steps at EvCC Get Started Guide. To transfer credits to EvCC, you are responsible for contacting your previous institutions and requesting that official transcripts be sent directly to the EvCC Enrollment Services office.

Placement, Orientation, and Course Requirements

Course Placement Requirements

New students who wish to register for more than seven credits, or who plan to enroll in classes with math and/or English prerequisites, must obtain placement prior to registration. Placement benchmarks assist students and advisors in selecting the right courses for long-term success. For additional details, visit the EvCC Course Placement Page.

Placement Reciprocity

Per Washington state community and technical college system policy, a student who qualifies for entry into a math or English class at any Washington state public two-year college (either through course completion or local skills assessment) will be granted equivalent placement at every other community and technical college in the state. This reciprocity rule applies even if course titles differ between schools and is fully embedded into the EvCC placement verification process.

Online Orientation & Entry Advising

• Orientation (Optional): Orientation is optional for all new students, including those who participated in off-campus, college-level courses while still in high school. You can complete orientation online at your own pace via the EvCC Online Orientation System.
• Entry Advising (Mandatory): Entry advising is mandatory for most new students. Advisors help you build your class schedule, select an educational pathway, and identify your institutional success goals. It is highly recommended that degree-seeking students meet directly with a faculty advisor. College Success Course Requirement

New degree-seeking students are required to take a college success course. Depending on your track, you will select one of the following variations during your entry advising session:

• College Success 101
• Health Professions 101
• STEM 101

Admission Procedures for Selective Programs

General admission to EvCC does not guarantee admission into highly selective classes or specialized programs, such as our Nursing track or the Accounting BAS degree. Students must consult specific program web portals or look over program checklists for standalone entry requirements. Program maps and specific tracking steps are published online.
