Tuition and Fees Refund Policy

Tuition and fees refer to full general tuition, operating fees, service and activities fees, technology fees, class fees and lab fees. Some fees are not refundable.

A refund of tuition and fees is made only when a student officially withdraws from a class or from the college and is based upon the refund deadlines. Date and time of receipt of the add/drop form in the Enrollment Services office or of an electronic transaction using our online registration system establishes the rate at which refunds will be made.

The refund schedule varies depending on the type of class. Refund dates are listed at EverettCC.edu/Deadlines. Refunds can take up to five weeks to process.

If tuition and fees have been paid by the student’s state or federal financial aid, cash, credit or debit card, or other payment methods (ie, scholarships, agency funding, etc.), it is the student’s responsibility to officially withdraw from college whether they attended class or not by the quarterly class schedule deadlines. Students who find it necessary to totally withdraw from college should first consult with a faculty adviser or counselor. Failure to follow the required procedures for withdrawal may result in failing grades being submitted, possible repayment of veteran benefits, possible repayment of financial aid, etc., and forfeiture of all claims for refund for tuition and fees.

State-supported classes that begin during the first week of the term

EvCC has established refund deadlines based on the Revised Code of Washington 28B.15.605. If a student withdraws from a college course or program before the sixth day of the regular quarter (fall, winter and spring quarters), they will receive a 100% refund. For example, if fall quarter begins on Monday, then the deadline for 100% refund is the prior Sunday. During summer quarter, the 100% refund deadline is at the end of the fourth business day of the term.

The 50% refund deadline is at the end of the day on the 20th calendar day of the term. Calendar days are defined as weekdays, weekends and holidays.

To receive a full or partial refund after paying, or to avoid being billed for the full or partial amount of tuition, you must submit an official withdrawal by these dates.

State-supported classes that begin before or after the first week of the term

Deadlines are prorated, depending on the length of the course. Students can find deadlines for early or late start classes in the online class schedule. Please call 425-388-9076 to determine the prorated deadline. In general, it is wise to withdraw before the first day if your plans have changed.

Self-support classes

Self-support classes are usually distinguished by a comprehensive class fee that is different from state regulated tuition. For some self-support classes, cancellations need to be made at least four working days prior to the first class in order to receive a refund. For some classes, the specific refund deadline is listed in the online class schedule.

Refund Process

Students should allow 30 days for a refund to be processed. For students receiving federal financial aid, the tuition refund will be calculated in accordance with state and/or federal law. These formulas are published in the Financial Aid office’s policies/procedures manual. Affected students will be notified of the calculation used at the time a tuition refund is applied to their accounts.

Petitions for exceptions to the refund policy must be submitted to the Enrollment Services office prior to the end of the following quarter in which tuition and fees were paid. Petitions received for prior quarters will not be considered.

Students who wish to be considered for a refund beyond regular deadlines must withdraw from the courses, and submit this petition with supporting documentation.

The following circumstances are given the strongest consideration: a call to active military duty, a severe and unexpected illness which began during the term and precludes any and all activity.
