Early Childhood Education ATA

Overview

Early Childhood Education ATA (ECEECAPT) Active: F 2018

The Associate in Technical Arts (ATA) degree is awarded for completion of a program of study in technical education, the purpose of which is to prepare students for related employment with skills that meet the needs of the business community.

Notes

  • Completion of First Aid, CPR and HIV Certifications are required.
  • The Early Childhood Education program includes several certificates and degrees. The Associate in Technical Arts in Early Childhood Education meets Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) requirements for positions including Center Director and Center Assistant Director, Center Program Specialist, Head Start Assistant, ECEAP Assistant Teacher, ECEAP Lead Teacher, and is an alternative pathway to Head Start Lead Teacher. This opens the door to many other Early Childhood positions as well. This degree transfers into Bachelor of Applied Science ECE degrees at multiple Washington state colleges.
  • Employment in the Early Learning field in Washington State requires the ability to pass the Department of Early Learning Portable Background Check in the MERIT system. Students are required to pass the Portable Background Check before completing the second practicum course (ECE 132 Practicum Lab II). Inability to pass the Portable Background Check will prevent students from completing the ATA degree.
  • The Early Childhood Education department recognizes students often enter the program with job experience that may be worth credit. To help students get a jump start on their credit, Everett Community College offers credit for Child Development Associate (CDA) certificates and other credentials. More information about credit for industry certifications or experience-based portfolios, see the Academic Credit for Prior Learning (ACPL) webpage or reach out to ACPL@everettcc.edu.
