Tuition Reduction Programs
Tuition Reduction Waivers
In some cases, students are eligible for tuition reduction waivers for state-supported classes. Tuition reduction programs do not apply to self-support classes, and students are still responsible for paying all required lab fees, special fees, books, and supplies.
State and College Employees
- Washington State Employees & K-12 Public School Employees: Permanent Washington state employees working half-time or more, as well as certain K–12 public school employees, qualify for a reduced rate of $20 per class (plus books and fees) on a space-available basis.
- EvCC Employees: Permanent classified staff, exempt staff, full-time faculty, and eligible part-time faculty may also qualify for an employee tuition waiver.
- Registration Rule: For employee waivers, registration must be submitted on or after the first day of the quarter. Registering early, including joining a waitlist, disqualifies you from using the waiver for that course.
Senior Citizens
- Senior Citizen Residents Waiver: Washington state residents age 60 and older can audit up to two courses tuition-free on a space-available basis (for no credit).
- Cost & Registration: Seniors must pay a $5 fee plus any applicable class or campus fees (such as technology, lab, or parking). Registration must be submitted on or after the first day of class; registering early or joining a waitlist disqualifies you from using the waiver.
Course Exclusions
Tuition waivers for state employees, EvCC employees, and senior citizens are not available for:
- Correspondence or portfolio development
- Community service or self-support classes
- Special projects
- Courses where the instructor receives extra pay or the college pays special fees to support the class
Special Categories and Residency Waivers
- Refugee-Asylee and Parole Students: Nonimmigrant students holding a current I-94 with Refugee-Asylee or Parole status may be eligible for a tuition reduction.
- First Responders' Dependents: Children and surviving spouses of law enforcement officers, firefighters, or Washington State Patrol officers who died or became totally disabled in the line of duty may be eligible for a tuition waiver.
- Non-Residents Waiver: U.S. citizens or permanent residents living in Washington who are classified as nonresidents because they haven't lived in the state for 12 months may qualify for an operating fee waiver.
- Non-U.S. Citizens / Non-Permanent Residents: Students may qualify for resident tuition rates if they meet specific Washington state high school attendance and residency criteria.
Military Personnel and Veterans
Tuition waivers are available for military veterans, current members of the National Guard, and certain dependents of deceased or permanently disabled veterans. Eligibility is determined through the EvCC Veteran Resource Center.
